That's what those guys are paid to do.
Glad to see my tax dollars at work, this skill will come in handy when he needs to strafe a beach full of vacationing families.
Holy Guacamole!
The whole mess of them blew my doors off once. I was southbound on I-75 about 25-minutes north of Dayton, OH. About a minute after it dawned on me it was the airshow weekend, that the show was nearly over and I better speed up to miss the traffic - KA-blooooommm.... sub-sonic, right over the median going south. If you complain, it's what they call "the sound of freedom" when you live near Cherry Point or Seymore Johnson AFB. :)
What a sight! I saw the smoke plume of them going straight up shortly thereafter. 4:03 -

The show here at MCAS Beaufort was canceled due to cutbacks so no Blue Angels for us this year
I know, right? Where the hell was my high school guidance counselor on that one? When I finished my degree (almost exactly on my 25th anniversary on active duty) I took my degree up to personnel and told them I was ready for a commission. They said what I knew they would say (i.e. you're too damn old and you've been in for 25 years) and directed me down the hall to retirements. I could have been the crustiest LT on the planet :)
Having grown up not far off the end of the runway of MacDill AFB (at a time when it was the school house for F-4 guys going to Vietnam) I was acquainted with the sound of freedom very young. My first time working on real airplanes (F-111's at Mountain Home right after tech school) we were out on the flightline when four jets cranked up right next to us. When I began to insert earplugs (as they had taught us in school) my boss, the quintessential crusty old Sergeant, snapped "What the @#ck are you doing!?" When I explained I was inserting ear protection he retorted, "You clueless @#ck! That's the sound of freedom, if your sensitive little ears can't enjoy it, you should probably be working at McDonalds!" :rofl2:
That is a CL 215 water bomber giving that close shave. This is a CL 415 (newer turbo prop version) at work Astonishing footage of a water bomber at work - Nfld. & Labrador - CBC News .

Thanks, you don't want to be hit by the water it could kill you, like being hit with a brick wall. We had a couple dropping water in the mill yard to put out a fire the local fire dept was having trouble handling.

Yup grew up south of Gandy Blvd. Probably only a mile or so from the Dale Mabry gate of MacDill. It's not the neighborhood it once was, thus I live in the "country" and stay largely on the other side of the bay.
Yeah my brother was stationed at NAS P-cola for a few months, only about 2 hours from the house. We went down and passed the hell out after a long day of irresponsibility. The BAs don't give a ****. 6 am on a Sunday and they were practicing landing on top of the barracks... Or so it seemed.
Yup, the old neighborhood sure ain't what it once was and to be honest Tampa ain't what it once was, so I moved out to the burbs (New Port Richey used to be orange groves, cattle, single wides and rednecks when I was a kid, not so anymore, it really is the burbs.) The fetching Mrs. GI and I have been contemplating a move up to the Redneck Riviera (Panama City) for years. I like to think that will finally happen in the forseeable future.
PS: Robinson HS class of 1980
I used to be stationed in Pensacola where the Blue Angels main base was part of the year and they practiced every tuesday and thursday. Atleast thats the only times they were supposed to practice but nope they would practice every day at all times of the day and morning and evening and pretty much whenever you were trying to sleep. I did get to see a lot of cool shows for free though so thats worth it I guess.
