Thanked: 1184Backyard Calbred takes Kentucky's best
5th straight win for a California horse (Cal bred- registered) today as " California Chrome" takes the derby win as the favorite. For a 13,000 dollar horse he is looking good to win a few more. Cal bred, for those who don't know, is for California horses so they can race against "just" other Ca. horses in this state. This is the first time a Cal-bred has won the Derby although other California horses have. D. Wayne Lukas had a few. He started with Cal bred in Quarter horse racing here in So Cal.
I had a fleeting moment in my history with a Cal Bred from my backyard. He only had 3 races on him when the economy took a dump and I had to get off the track faster than he ran. I shard the dream with DAP stables (Dumb Assed Partners) today though. There is nothing like being in the paddock before a race.
Here's my boy Jetson on a breeze out at Los Alamitos. I rode his Mom for 13 years who died 1 year after he came off the track in a freak trailer incident.
He became my daily driver after that. I never let him forget I could pick him up and carry him back to his stall. I had him fooled :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
