By then it’ll be all apologies and “your right hon, what was I thinking”.
But the job will be done.

I'm still lucky enough to have a guy at our local John Deere dealer that knows what's on the shelf and remembers your equipment. Then he'll say "that's not what you need, hang on"...........disappears into the parts area.........comes back with a dusty box and hands it to you. Then your day is great and things get done.
But I agree, most don't know anymore than the computer tells them
Great thread Mike, and hope you don't have to ask for forgiveness
Almost done.

Note the wood rear panel behind the tank.

Last night sealed, dried and set inside.

Hunter green was as close as I could find..
Will do, for now..I hope..
May end up finding some green primer, and settling for that as this is a little too bright for the rest of the cars paint..
Now onto this ugly aftermarket fuel level sender

I love the upgrade, but hate the look of the top of this sticking out of my tank. Think I can do better, once I get under all that paint..
Well, the tank work is done.
Went from this:

To this:

Lost over an inch of ugly height by reducing the cap and retaining lock required for the capacitive fuel probe.

Finally I gutted a new oil filter, trimmed it to cover the newly reduced height, painted it up and added some bling to cover the whole thing, and still give access if needed.
Almost looks passable now and if/when I ever truly take this down to frame I can revisit the entire array and tank at that time. Tire hides a lot of sins too!
Happy to say I took her out fir the first rip of the year.
No leaks, and no hesitation of throttle so far. So the system is cleaner than it has been in years, which was the reason the latest work was important in the first place.
Cheers.

Swear to Gawd, Mike, you must be related to MacGyver . . . some household chemicals, a welder and some sheet metal, you could probably jury rig a space shuttle.
1000 km’s on the new tank and dang, I found yet another clogged filter, on the fuel pump itself. Thought it was a check Vv or back syphon preventer, but nope, another filter, that was clogged up too evidently.
Replaced it last weekend and gents, holy cow. I had no idea I was retarding so much potential since ownership. The triumph tr3 2.0l engine that was put in this car in the 70s has loads of jam still. Car rips now, and the dual side draft carbs just whistle under full throttle.
Driven the 300 clicks round trip to work and back in it a number of times each week over the last 2 weeks. Decided it’s almost time to plan to pull it all apart and tackle the cosmetics cause the patient is alive!
Hate to lose half the summer worth of driving, but if I don’t start, it’ll always be unfinished.
Cheers.
I met my sister for lunch today and she took this while I was pulling up.

Just my personal thoughts but I would enjoy it the rest of the summer.
That isn't that much longer.
Do you have a heated garage to work on it in this winter?
