Thread: Makin' Shavings / Turner's Projects.

I had time to make one more Christmas Ornament while doing all the other things I needed to get done today. This one is the Inside-out turning. I almost messed it up as while you are turning it you watch the shadows that are made to know where to cut. I got confused and was watching the wrong shadow and almost went right through the middle. It would have ruined it, but I stopped just in time. I think the center sections are 1/32" thick.



Then here are the 3 I made yesterday. Being very new to this I had room for a lot of changes to make things better. But we all start somewhere.



So if you have some Pics to share or info to help others with "turning" please jump in. Turning of any kind is welcome. Who am I kidding, Any posts are welcome.

Man, I am glad to see a thread like this! We have some fine lathe-masters here. I just love seeing what they do.
Maybe some tutorials will be along?

Very nice work!! Been turning for a couple of years but am having to give it up for a while due to having problems with my 71 year old hands from sand, cleaning, polishing, etc. straight razor blades and scales for the past 12 years. Going to have to give up working on razors too, two hobbies down the hatch. Guess I'll just spend time doing some fishing and more time shooting my muzzle loaders, still have those two to fall back on!

Nice work, Jerry-My favorite of your brush designs are the 2nd and 3rd ones from the right. It's nice to have a dedicated thread for turning now; thanks for getting it done! I'll come back in after coffee and see what I can post up, maybe.

So here's the brush part of the Cocobolo and copper combo I've been working on as time allows; I just installed it with 2-part epoxy. The other half is the NOS Herder 49 in the same material I posted on recently in progress in the Workshop. Everything is done except for the wedge and pinning. Full disclosure: I eff'd up the other side of the 6-inch coco blank by turning the top part for the band a few thousands too narrow and messing up the shelf under it. Thankfully, I had enough to flip it around and re-do it on the other end; you can't get distracted when turning!

Just finished this walnut, antler and brass leather edge burnisher for my son. Turned the brass and antler on my metal lathe. Not sure what kind of antler it is but it didn't seem to have the pithy center like white tail.

I like that Jerry! I suppose you made the slots before you glued it together?

Very nice idea for a good set of French knives. And nice choices for the contrast Jerry.
Laguiole knives keep a terrific serrated edge.
