    Default New Wheelgun

Got this a few weeks ago. Sold my KelTec P3AT and bought this. Model 36 Smith. No dash so I am venturing to guess it is a mid 60s gun. Great little shooter.

Ahh... thats what Im talkin about, very nice

    Heres some info for you

According to Supica & Nahas's STD CAT OF S&W, J frame serial number range for the Model 36 is:

    1962 295000
    1969 786544

In 1967 the 36-1 modification was introduced, indicating the 3" heavy barrel.

In 1969-70 serial numbers became prefixed with the letter J--J1 thru J99999

S&W eliminated the "diamond" grips circa 1967.
S&W started marking them as Model 36 in 1957

Looking at the grips not having the diamond around the screw Im going to say its 1967 , but in 67 is when they introduced the 36-1 .

Thanks for the info. It is an old one for sure. The grips are numbered to the gun. It is tight, but has some wear(big deal!) I shot 50 rds through it and now she waits.
