So what are we looking at nessmuck? A Yew Longbow? It looks like it's well-crafted.
I have very similar arrows, BTW. Would almost put money on them being made by same person.

I do hunt not that it should make much difference but I shoot a Matthews DXT wit a 29in draw, 70lb pull, and shoot a Easton FMJ at 277 fps. My other bow is a 55lb Black Widow take down recurve. A lot more challenging to shoot then the Matthews and just as much fun
The bow is for elk hunting and at the time I thought I needed the extra draw weight. I found latter that I could easily have gotten by with a lower draw weight. Over the years I have become accustomed to it and just stay with it.
Ahh ok I was wondering. I don't blame you for just sticking with it, I probably would too.
I shot a 20X game tonight!!!!!
I haven't done that in a while. 23x's in a row.
I have to let my sub conscience rule.
My son & I are entered into a weekly tournament that shoots 60 arrows a night, total possible score of 300 each night,, once a week. It's two hours a week for 10 weeks, at the end of the 10 week tournament the scores are added. Different catagories, traditional, recurve & compound,,, my son & I use a compound. The distance is only 20 yards, but it's not piece of cake to shoot consistant 5 & X's.
Congrats, well shot
Don't misunderstand me,,, I've never shot a 300 :rofl2:
I'm in the 230's, 240's right now,,,,& we have 6 more weeks to go,,,
300 is a BIG deal !
Butt you have the skill and the ability to reach that!
At first you have to think about what you are doing. [your conscience mind]
then just do it!!!!
like throwing a baseball. You don't think. =your sub conscience.
What's easier...a 300 in archery..or...a 300 in ten pin bowling ????
I'll never know,,,,
Which target face for archery???
NFAA five spot is not "super" hard. I have shot 59X a couple of times. Never 60.
Maple Leaf 40cm NFAA 5 Spot Target Face
The best I have done on the Vegas target is 297.
Maple Leaf FT-40cm 3 Spot Grey "Vegas" Target Face
I know many more archers that have shot 300 than I do bowlers but then again I don't hang out with bowlers. :D
This weekend I imagined I was in Vegas. 290 12X, 290 11X, and 294 8X. I wonder how that would place me?
That was with my compound. Shot a 246 with my olympic recurve on the NFAA with my recurve tonight. Gotta get better before the State tournament with that.
I know I shouldn't be mixing styles but I have to have fun!
I just looked up the results and I would be in 376th place out of 876. :rofl2:
877 if I would have been there!
Well, that's a lot better than being # 877,,, :tu
I wonder how the modern guys would fair using the same equipment as these archers?

Whole different way of shooting there Roy :)
btw I'm guessing the middle guy has a heavier poundage bow than the others. The brace on his wrist is most likely connected to a thumbring spreading the draw weight to his wrist. A simiar brace connect to the elbow would allow the shooting of a much heavier bow as the thumb is less stressed.

I figured that would be that case, that's why I posted the picture. Those bows are entirely different looking than any modern ones this old redneck country boy has ever seen.
Any idea of how accurate those bows and arrows would be?
The ' Thumb Brace' would make sense; the additional brace to the elbow likewise.
My friend, you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge!
Shooting a recurve or longbow is the best IMO! As a kid, I loved walking through the woods of Pa. and shooting at old rotten stumps with my cedar shaft arrows!
Bear take-down recurve. Regrettably, my shoulder is giving me trouble so I'm not sure I can even string it right now. It does have a 3-pin sight on it, but that's the only concession to modernity.
Recurves and fingers forever!
Learned to shoot on a Bear recurve. Shortly after I moved to a compound. haha.
My dad made me start with the recurve. Oddly enough I still have the recurve and sold all my compounds.
I shoot a Bear compound and a checkmate recurve. Both used for target and hunting.
I had fun frustration with my recurve tonight. They are so much less forgiving than a compound.
Attachment 194378Here is a fun picture of the recurve. Bear, elk and deer with it..... But only one of each lol.
Can't see the bow!:(
I assembled my first bowstring on tuesday night. I was playing with it tonight and was moving the knocking point etc and I messed up the serving. Now I got to reserve it again tonight. At least I didn't wreck the string itself. If that is the worst mistake I make today I am doing well!
Well I tend to bow hunt like I fish... only whenever I get a chance. :roflmao
I awoke at 01:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Decided to go the the archery club and got there around 04:15. By the time I left just after 12:00 I was starting to get sloppy!:) I did 2 scoring games and then assembled a new string and shot another. All 3 beat my previous personal best, even with the new string and only 5 shots to sight it in!
My personal best with an Olympic Recurve is now 281 with 14 X"s. Although the 278 with 21 X's I think I am happier with even though a lower total score.
I am starting to approach competitive!:rofl2:
I wonder how my muscles will feel in the morning?????
I have had a good archery week.
My team finished first in my Wednesday night leagues. [compound bow]
I went to the Minnesota State Archery Association state indoor tournament on Friday. When we went for breakfast at the motel the clerk mentioned that there was an article in the paper about the tournament that we told her we were attending. There was my picture on the front page! My freestyle compound score was acceptable but not what I wanted.:o
Today I was crowned the SMNAA champion. Senior Olympic Recurve. [There was only 2 in my class.]:rofl2:
Tim
Get'em Robin Hood,,,, :rofl2:
I finally got mine set at the 30 yard line,,,, I went to a different type peep & this one has a little lens in it that clears up my pins,,,, I always thought my pins were supposed to "glow" brightly,,, it's so nice to see a sharp pin.
I just joined another archery club.... I will have leagues there for the next 22 weeks.
That makes 2 clubs and I shoot at a shop...
I love archery!!!!!
Maybe some day I will be good at it.
I have been having fun trying field archery. Here are a couple of pictures of fun groups this week. I admit they haven't all been this good!;)
This group was shot from 4 stations in a fan pattern at 35 yards.
Attachment 200024
This was at 50 yards. Was the odd shot a mistake and my sight was off? Or did I make the same exact mistake 3 times?:rofl2:
Attachment 200025
With them holes all over the place,,,, I thought you were playing, "Pin The Tail On The Donkey",,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :roflmao
