My cousin had an Alaskan Husky/Malamute cross, his name was Charger. Washington State is pretty much divided into thirds. You have the Rain Forest on the West Coast and the Cascade Mountain Range on the Eastern Side. Down the middle is pretty much a desert.
He lived in Soap Lake which is right in the middle of the desert. Every year about early springtime Charger got a hair cut. He used a heavy duty set of clippers to bring the coat down to just above the skin, by the time late fall came the hair had grown back.
It was pretty funny as during the hot months, and with his hair cut Charger would hang out in the shade of his pen. But during the winter snows, he'd be curled up out in the snow.
