She had clearly been having problems of late, but also had lots of good days, but she wouldn't eat yesterday and today. An X-ray quickly revealed the problem: her lungs were filled with cancer. Juno was our third Leonberger, and our first champion. But that's not what made her so special. She had the greatest personality, and was so attached to my wife. When my wife was recovering from her mastectomies and going through chemo, Juno was her "nurse dog" and wouldn't leave her side; she even slept in our bed with her (something we normally didn't allow, but we couldn't keep her out). She also was our Alpha Bitch, and ruled our pack despite having the sweetest disposition you can imagine. She was VERY vocal, and would always greet us with a toy in her mouth, growling her happy growl or "wooing", and tail wagging. She would also talk when she had a rawhide chew...she'd walk around, doing her happy growl until the rawhide was gone. She was an absolutely delightful companion. I will miss her terribly.
Her passing was very peaceful: her head simply got heavy in my lap, and she was gone. My wife is distraught, but we knew this was coming, so I'm confident that we'll both recover fairly quickly.

Sad news, and it's always hard to lose a mate no matter what. Such a pity our dog friends can't live a greater span of years. I feel for your loss. I understand what you feel, having been there like many others have also.

My sympathies to you and your wife. I had to give two of my beloved cats back to the Universe this last Summer. Surviving cat still is having a bad time of it now and then. Question tho: Are you sure your wife is under those two dogs?
