    Default My Other Hobby

    Hi Everyone,

I have been learning to make pipes for the last year. I am not making my own stems yet, as I am still in the process of restoring a 1941 South Bend metal lathe that was used in WWII. But soon I will be making stems as well. Here are a few pics of pipes I have made.

    Cheers!

Very nice work; I love them both. It's something I would love to do, but no tools or know how.

All you need now is a pocket watch maker, a hat maker, and a monocle maker and your set to look like the Monopoly guy...lol

    Nice wood work.

    Cheers

Both pipes show how well you are working WITH the briar. Great work!

Thank you for your comments everyone.

I neglected to write that I have had a professional pipe maker advising me during my constructs. His name is Kim Kendall from Penguin Briar. He is very generous with his knowledge. I respect him a lot.

Pipe restoration had never occurred to me as a hobby, then again neither did straight razors until I joined this site. I have an old pipe (I think it is old) when I dig it out of storage I now know who to send pictures to help identify it. .

    Nice work btw!

I saw a program on T.V about pipe making. I don't remember the station or the guy but he was a real master and his stuff was over a grand. According to him even after putting in a lot of work you never know if the wood will crack and all the work is ruined.
