Other .22's like the Winchester 58.

I used to have a winchester rifle when I was younger. Well my dad did. Anyways is was much like a winchester model 58 with the bolt action to eject the spent cartridge and load the next and then you had to actually cock it by pulling back the firing pin. I don't think it was a model 58 because it seemed a little newer and had a plastic butt stock cap. I know it was a winchester but I just can't remember which.

The Canadian made Cooey rifles had many models similar to Winchester in the US. I grew up with a Cooey that operated the same way as you described.

No Clue about the 58 sorry, the best of the best win. ever made was the 62A, Ijust sold one at live auction,N.O.S, never fired.
Orig Box and all paperwork,bought in 1938 at turners hardware store,stockton Calif.

Dad still has his 62A. No telling how many rounds have been down the barrel of that little darling. He still shoots squirrels with it and he's 88. He bought his in Corrizo Springs, TX in '37 with money he made off his paper route.

I looked up cooey and found a model 39. Me Likey. I don't know why but I really like the single shots. Man what I wouldn't do for a nice ruger no. 1 as well. The 62a is ok I just never liked the pump on a rifle. It just seems wrong which doesn't make any sense because pump is undoubtedly faster than bolt action.

Well, you could find a little Savage Model 72 Crackshot if you are wanting a Ruger #1 style single shot. Had one years ago too. Nostalgic Savage M72 Crackshot
