Wrist Watches

Back a few years ago when I was making substancially more than I am now (you know, pre-recession) I splurged on an Invicta 3468 Russian Diver...mechanical movement, 17-jewel Swiss movement, fully skeletonized, the works.

After a couple years on harsh dental cleaning solutions, the band finally gave up the ghost...the watch that was supposed to last forever had FAILED! What's worse is that Invicta told me that they would have to ship the watch out of country for a new band and would take 6+ months to get back into my hands. What to do, what to do. I pulled the latigo strop off the wall that I didn't use anymore after getting an SRD strop and went to work with some tools sourced from Tandy Leather.

I'd say not bad for a first shot...

It's beautiful. I would never have thought of turning a strop into a band. You've done an excellent job on it by the looks of things. And I must say I'm not usualy a fan of skeleton watches but I do like this one.

No watch lasts forever. I have the same watch. However, mine is Titanium and the band is also. I could never wear it because it's way too big almost 60mm. I bought it as a collectible because I liked the mvmt.

Very good for a first effort! I may have to watch out for another competitor soon!

You are right, "no watch lasts forever". My Omega seamaster was bought in 1989, since that time only battery change and two cleaning.

Of course no watch is designed to last forever.

I have a Seiko Quartz my wife gave me for a present in 1976 and other than battery changes works as good as it did when I first got it. I also have a pocket watch from the late 1700s which used to run when I got it but doesn't anymore. I guess the parts wear to point and then that's it.

Nice thread. How come i haven't noticed it before. There's so many nice watches on these posts.
I own only two wrist watches but that is all i need. On my daily use at work i have my old scratched Citizen Promaster. I've had it more than 25 years and it still works well. When i used to dive i wore that same clock under water as well. Not worth taking photo.
When i want to wear something better, or at least different i have my Omega Seamaster 600 from sixties. It used to be my fathers clock. I had it serviced few years ago and will probably have to replace new glass soon.

Right now I own two. One is a cheap Relic styled after dive watches I picked up from JC Penney and I just received a nice Christopher Ward C15 Henley for graduation.
