I sawr the pocket watch thread, but I'm guessing most of y'all wear your mobile clocks on yo' wrists. Though I could be wrong.
I wanted to take part in the other thread, but I don't own a pocket watch. I've worn a wrist watch for most of my life, and my arm feels very much like it's missing something when I'm not wearing one. Almost like a missing finger or hand.

I have a Speedy Pro that I bought 36 years ago. I still love it, although it doesn't get much wrist time now. It was just rebuilt, but I had the watchmaker keep as many original parts as possible. A classic timepiece.

Looking at the watch on my wrist, it feels like a classic; but to know that your watch, which was purchased a decade before I was born, is still going strong (after a little TLC, in this case) after all that time? I like the Railmaster too. I want to get a vintage Omega to add to the collection. Winding this guy every day is no real chore, but a classic automatic would be neat. Maybe a Constellation or a vintage Seamaster.

You might consider a Seamaster to go with the Speedy. I have a couple of them and they are great everyday watches. Great looking and durable enough to take some abuse.

The spring drive is a different and unique watch.

For that reason I think I'd like to get a more vintage Omega. From the 1950's or 1960's, maybe. I saw a Seamaster at an antique store I frequent (I've nabbed a few nice razors there), but the caseback and crown were gold, which I don't like the look of. I prefer the stainless steel. It was 350 bucks. Maybe I should have bought it and tried to arrange for a trade or something. Ah well.

I happen to have a bunch of black dial watches but I know what you mean about variety. The Seamaster can be had with a few dial variations, blue, white etc. The watch hobby is a lot of fun, but can be really damaging to the old wallet. I'm in recovery from watch addiction at the present:w

If you don't mind a little story... my first watch was this blue faced Omega Constellation. I was in fourth grade, and our family could not afford to even buy any watch back then. I was a sacristan back then, and this was given to me by a kind monsignor I used to serve with. It was a gift from his parents upon his ordination as a priest. It did not leave my wrist up till it stopped working, well into my college years.
Fast forward 30 years... I took it out of its storage box last year and had Omega do a complete overhaul of the mechanism, buff the case and replace the glass and crown. It has a special place, not only for nostalgic reasons, but also as a reminder of human kindness.

I have to admit I stopped wearing this one and only wrist watch several years ago and haven't worn any watch since. I feel like I'm living in my own little world by not wearing a watch, but it's liberating in some weird way.

Another Omega speedy here. Got this as a graduation present for myself in January (graduated college in Dec.). Only made in 1996. Black with red hands appealed to me because it looks similar to many automotive gauges, and I'm a car nut (degree in automotive engineering to boot).

Wow, a lot of Omega fans here! I pretty much have had an Omega for the last 25 years and now I wear a 2254.50. You guys have great taste! Just for the record, if you ever have to have it overhauled send it to Switzerland. The price is about the same, and it will look like new. I have not had to do it yet though! :rock:

That's good service advice for any quality swiss watch. The swiss have invested in keeping competent repair people. In the U.S there are too many stories about people taking a watch in to a shop that "repairs" watches or even factory agents and when they pick up the watch it just never runs correctly ever again.Quote:

I was watching Antiques Roadshow earlier today and a guy brought in an old Omega pilot's watch. Apparently it was worth a "couple of thousand" (England). Then they brought out a servicing bill from the 1930's. The bill was for T.E. Lawrence, a.k.a Lawrence of Arabia. Needless to say, it increased the watch's value a little bit.
Does "send it to switzerland" mean the same thing as take it to an Omega dealer, or does one actually send directly to Omega somehow?
Mine was supposudly serviced just before I bought it (January of this year), but it was shipped from Japan so no idea where it was serviced. Seems to work fine though.
You can send it back to Omega in Switzerland directly or you could send it to an Omega service center. I don't have the specifics but you could go to TimeZone, check the Omega Forum and get the info you need to send it in for service.Quote:

In the blood, eh? I'm actually part Swiss, which makes me think I could pop the caseback on my watch and all the parts will instantly make sense to me! :)
On the other hand, I'm also part Irish, so I might think it'd be a good idea to mix watch repair with some Jameson whiskey and then screw my Speedy up big time. :(

Currently wearing a Breitling, Super Ocean; previously was a Tag but before that a O Speedmaster which i wore from 1960 until 2000, when they could no longer repair. No parts. It still works but loses time. Loved that watch but really do like the Breitling.

Actually, there are lots of Speedy parts available. I had quite a few NOS parts put on my watch when it was last serviced. A friend of mine has one that was completely assembled from parts sourced by the watchmaker.Quote:
