To make a long story short, I've got about 10 large grolsch beer bottles (I'm guessing about 16oz). They are the kind with the ceramic stoppers on a bail with a rubber seal, and have a lot of decorative raised scroll work on them.
Anyway, I have no use for the what so ever. They are currently taking up space.
I've seen several forums on home brewing, and I was wondering if anybody thinks they are worth trying to sell.

If they are no older than say 20-30 years: probably not as Grolsch lager is still sold in them today.
They are not worth more than half a euro (which is what you get for tuning them in empty).
They would be great for making your own aftershaves in, and I can see how they would be awesome for homebrewing, but as mentioned above, they are still in production. I'd say they are worth whatever you'd get for recycling them.
Maybe they'd be worth more if Grolsh was gross and expensive (such that people wanted the bottles but didn't want to pay for the beer), but neither is true.
If anything, the older bottles would have a bit more value versus the new ones since the newer ones have lame white plastic tops whereas the older ones had real ceramic tops.

They switched to plastic? Must've happened not too long ago (like, a couple of years) because I got some bottles of it, only 6 years ago I think, and they still had the ceramics.
are they the Green colored or the brown colored bottles ?
Green, last I checked.
Edit - oh, I thought Mike was asking in general, not about these specific bottles.
Thanks to everyone for the responses. Perhaps I'll just hang on to them for some unknown future project.
7 of them are green, 3 are brown. All have the porcelain caps, and all of them appear to still seal well, although I'd probably replace the rubber washers if I was going to put anything carbonated in there, i.e. beer.Quote:

Here they are brown as most beer bottles. The way I understand it is that in some countries green bottles sell better than brown bottles.Quote:

ok since we are on the subject of Grolsch Bottles , because I have always had a thing for them. Has anyone seen the Cobalt Blue( Grolsch Style Bottle) that Ogallalla Bay rum comes in, I just had to buy one. I was laying in bed this morning staring at this bottle as the sun was shining through it and leaving a blue streak reflection on the wall. God that sounds like something I would have said in the 70's :eek:

Yup, I've seen those, and I really like the bottle style. It's ok to say things that sound like they're out of the 70's, because the bottles look like they're from the 70's too (or maybe older... I don't know, I wasn't around back then).Quote:

They are great for bottling beer, not much else.
These swing top grolsch bottles are the subject of many discussions on home brewing websites. It appears they are not very good for fermenting because of the pressure buildup but once the process is complete you can use the swing top to close them. I read that some folks can tomato sauce in them.
Regarding any value, it seems the cost of shipping outstrips the value of the bottle. It is more economical to buy the bottles full of beer from the liquor store rather than buying them empty and paying for shipping.
Try Googling "Grolsch swing top bottles" and see what you can use.

Well, since this thread has been resurrected, I've got one of those classic Grolsch bottles with some excellent home-brewed bay rum in them.
when i was at school people used to thread the top onto their shoelace. if you aren't familiar with grolsch tops they are a hard plastic or possibly ceramic and mushroom shaped, there is a hole through the wider section for the wire closer to fit in, this hole is where a lace was threaded.
unfortunately a few people aledgedly got their feet broken by having the grolsch top stamped on, and they were banned.
