Went and shot my new DPMS today, first 5 shots I could not hit a target at 20 yds! Finally realized when I bought sights I did not buy a front sight for a lowered gas block. So I was shooting right over my target. Now once I realized what was going on and after feeling stupid, I was able to aim about 8 inches lower than what I wanted to hit and all was good.
Pay attention to what you are buying was my lesson for the day.
I'm planning a fairly big ride on my Harley this summer and a member and friend is a police officer in one of the states that I'd be passing through. I thought that I'd ask him about my pistol being either concealed (with me having my WA State Concealed Permit on person) or packed in the 'luggage' but fairly accessible. I also asked his thoughts about the same situation in other states. I appreciate his thoughts on the matter as I find them very wise.
I won't share all of his thoughts however I loved it when he ended with this:
"Also I only think California allows you to carry a single shot Nerf gun as long as you are wearing safety glasses and a traffic vest".
Yup Gotta Love California! :banghead:
Started shooting my first light sport competition tonight. Wasn't the best I've shot. But wasn't expecting much with the club guns.

Guns are like razors - you only need one....more.
Great quip from your friend. I have a detective friend. After many years as a police officer and now detective on the force, he has a very dry sense of humor as well.
There's a great interactive website, I forget the name, but it shows not only carry laws in each state, but most importantly for travel, reciprocity (or lack thereof).....And, man is it convoluted out there. My 2 cents: find that website and use it to make your decisions. Your friend is an expert in his state but that wouldn't count for jack in a carry-hostile state. Have an awesome and safe trip!
I'm well aware of the lack of consistency between the states and gun laws. A person is pretty much damned if he does and damned if he doesn't in some states.
I just wish this Republic could have an across the board acceptance of each other's gun laws, just like we do for our driver's licenses. Hell it's like back in the beginning when each state had it's own money! :banghead:
