Default Match to Dunhill's "Early Morning"

I was over at my local smoke shop picking up a pipe I'd brought to have reamed, and as they were getting it I was looking around at their tobacco selections. I noticed there was a jar on one of the lower shelves (kinda hidden from view in you're not looking for it) labeled "Early Morning." I'd heard great things about the Dunhill blend by the same name, so I asked about it. The guy told me this was their in-house match, so I picked up an ounce.

I came home and packed about 2/3 a bowl for a smoke while cleaning some razors up, and I must say that this stuff was phenomenal. A complex English blend with great flavor and a full body. I think I could smoke just this one tobacco and be totally happy. I've got some mason jars that I need to clean out, and I think I'm going to go back tomorrow for a few more ounces to age during the long, cold, Rochester winter.

PS: I just realized there is no more "What fine thing did you eat/drink/smoke thread around. What happened to that?

Early Morning is/was a good "all day" blend, suitable for every moment...if it is really dissapearing, as I have heard, that will be a real shame....

I have also heard that it's disappearing, but then one is always hearing that the Dunhill blends are going away, coming back, no they aren't, yes they are ...

I think Cornell & Diehl's recently introduced Good Morning is meant as a match ("Reminiscent of a classic Dunhill blend devoted to morning puffing"). I'm not familiar with either blend so can't say.

On an unrelated note, my brother is a freshman this year at R.I.T. I'm trying to convince him to switch to a straight, or at least a DE. Maybe I could gift him my EJ for Christmas.

On a related note, I might have to get a pipe sometime soon. I quite smoking though so I'm not sure how the fiance would feel about me picking up a pipe.

DO IT. EVERYONE IS DOING IT! ALL THE COOL PEOPLE ARE DOING IT!!!

seriously though, taken in moderation, I see no issue with smoking a pipe. I have maybe a bowl or two (or three or four) per month (never more than 2 in a given week), and really enjoy it. Very relaxing, very enjoyable, and goes hand in hand with straights.

I say you go get yourself a nice mid range pipe, some good tobacco, and enjoy. Life is to be enjoyed. The key is moderation.

No need for might. Just do it and be happy. Pick tobacco that smells good and the fiancee shouldn't have any issues with it. I enjoy cigars quite a bit, but there's something my "old" heart enjoys about packing up a pipe and having a puff.

Default Match to Dunhill' "Early Morning"

    My dear holli4pirating,

I remember Dunhill's "Early Morning" blend from my pipe smoking days. It was delightful. If the house blend is close, you have made a good choice.

I started on Balkan Sobrani and loved it. It is no longer made, although I understand it may be produced under Sasini, I don't know.

Ah, I miss my pipe. I guess I'll enjoy it vicariously through you.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Default Dunhaill's tobacco.

Many years ago I smoked a pipe and enjoyed it very much. I was very fond of Dunhill's Royal Yatch blend and my pipe smoking friends tell me that they have changed the blend/mixture.

Why people mess with a good thing is beyond me!

Does anyone know of a source for Comoy's Pipes and Bell's Three Nuns tobacco?

I had a Comoy pipe in the Dublin shape and it was the best pipe I ever owned.

I'm thinking of getting back into pipes and cigars.

    Fire in the hole!
