I'm actually a little more into different tobacco's, now. I smoked Dunhill 965 and only Dunhill 965 for more than twenty years. Now I have about 5 different favorites. I switched to mainly Virginia Periques a little more than ten years ago and just recently started enjoying some with Burley.

Then there is the sporadic tin I pull out of my tobacco cabinet.
I have to admit I have been "Pipe of the Daying" Captain Black Gold pouch and White Pouch for a while now on the ride home from work (got a crapload of it when CVS got rid of all their tobacco) I need to get some more non-aromatics back into the mix. I did smoke some "Shortcut to Mushrooms" last night after dinner so that was good. I have a few non-aromatic blends to get into if the mood hits.
Intersting conversation about favourite pipe tobaccos.
Many moons ago i was sure about my top 5 blends. Every since i've tried whio knows how many different blends. So nowadays i'm not so sure about my top 5 anymore. Maybe it'll keeps on changing in the future too.
Top 5 (not in any particular order):
Capstan blue
SG Chocolate flake OR UP Tillerman (i find these two to remind each other quite much).
J.F.Germain 1820/Presbyterian
Erinmore Flakes/Malcolm Flakes
SG Navy Flakes
I've cellared these to get me through World War Z or Metro 2033 :) Of course will be happy if i get some other blends too. Specially Dutch 'Brullende Leeuw' is a nice new blend, unfortunately only available here on rare occassions. I Might get hooked on that.
Also i have no any experience on blends they sell only in USA. I do not know if any such 'Europe only' blends even exist.
Well I guess we've all been going through the same thing then.Like all you fellas ,I've been on Pilots mix forever,then out of allergy needs I tried a couple of aromatics that I have taken too and recently aquired some more tobaccos including a couple of English blends that I'm liking so here we are now at the crossroads it seems.Not so bad after all.:)

The pipes in my collection are not worth much and not high on my list of things I worry about getting stolen so I would never bother to lock them up.Quote:

Vacations are great but it feels good to get home! I think that you have had a good vacation if you have to get back home and to work to recover not the other way around.

On the subject of draught holes and their importance, I recently did a little modification to my first Peterson pipe which was an Aran Christmas edition with a fishtail stem. Yes I abused it heated the he'll out of it multiple times from greedy puffing. Little burn out forming in some areas but most notably near the draught hole which was drilled a few mils above the apex of the bowl. This pipe smoked ok but seemed to fan the flame towards the wall near the shank. I have repaired it with Pipe mud I made from my fireplace ashes. Raising the bottom of the bowl and forming a new hole that channels air down rather than across and I must say this helped immensely. Shes back to smoking well. I have come to realize draught holes need to be checked with the up most of scrutiny. I see failed drilling jobs from time to time.
