I believe it was just one of their gimmicks to gather attention and appear more radical.Quote:
I'm so too yesterday to know much about modern metal bands; churches made of stone and the values they represent do not burn that easy, luckily. 'Returning to paganic roots' is maybe exaggeration. Folks are just trying to understand their roots and the values those people of the old did swear. I'm not so familiar with those people but afaik, it has nothing to do with religions by itself nor has any conflict with Christianity (or any modern religion). Rather just the way to see things.
Those metal folks carrying the 'hammer of Thor' (that was 'ukonvasara' here) in their necklace might think it is about some exciting cool old religion but actually that is a symbol of justice and fairness. Not some ancient god.
Wifey carries mother bear necklace. Is is an ancient symbol representing 'good home'. Or that's what i'm heard; not so much my piece of cake.
Christianity, in general came with various methods up here. Modern researches say that it came to my area (SW Finland) by trade and immigration from Sweden and southern parts of the Baltic Sea (modern Estonia, Poland, Germany and Netherlands; most people (incl. me) has their roots still in that direction). Poor crusades only show that spreading the word with sword was never a successful method here.
'Method: sword' was more succesfull in eastern Finland (by the Novgoridian Orthodox kingdom, founded by Vikings) and at the Baltic State countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) by the Teutonic Knights.
As a memorial of those days we still have so many castles around Northern Europe. The castle of my town is from 1200 or so and very close to where i live is another, only ruins today as it was destroyed about 1500 AD.
Have to take pics some day.
edit: OK folks. I know that i should have painted that bird feeder this summer. You aren't the first to remind me of that. Actually wifey has kept on saying it for the last few years. Feeding these little dudes is sort of her thing.
I've always wanted to see the old castles and churches of Europe.
