Thread: Freshly Rolled or Finely Aged

Howdy all,

This is a general question for all you cigar fans out there.

I hear lots of you speaking of aging your cigars and how it makes them better. I wanted to ask tho which you guys though was better.

Do you prefer the finely aged cigars. Or if you could would you rather a nice freshly rolled one?

I know we can't realistically have freshly rolled cigars but it's just something I was thinking about.

There are some shops that roll on site, but I think less and less these days. I've never had a freshly rolled one. I let mine sit in the humi for at least a few weeks, but that's because I'm eager to try them, as it's always something new. But I smoke cigars infrequently, so some have been sitting for about 2.5 years (which was when I bought my first box). Those are nice too :-)

It's fun to have the roller hand you a cigar to smoke on the spot. Think Beaujolais Nouveau. On the other hand, if, instead of lighting it you properly store that same cigar for a few years.....think vintage Bordeaux. Both enjoyable, but one is noticeably better. Just my opinion, of course. Try it for yourself.

We've had rollers in our local shops for events. The rollers suggest "aging" them for a couple of months before smoking them. I've had fresh rolled and aged, the aged are far superior to fresh rolled.

Looks like that debate is settled then.

Can't wait to get my humidor now and not have to worry about my cigars going off.

I have had a fresh rolled at The Big Smoke Out in Las Vegas a few years back.

I would rather have an aged, the fresh rolled I had was nothing to write home about. It was cool but I would rather open the humidor.

I suggest you buy the biggest you can afford. If you're gonna get into the cigar thing, you'll be sorry if you don't.
