Thread: Glasses for scotch and other obscure barware

Hello all!

Wondering if anyone has recommendations on classy, yet not outrageously priced scotch glasses. I haven't had much luck looking them up online.

Is it called something other than a scotch glass?

Also, does anyone know of a complete list of what type of glass goes with various types of drink?

As far as a "scotch glass"...I have no idea. I always just used a highball glass.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the "favour". When I have ordered scotch at a bar it has always been served in some sort of stemed glass, rather than the "old fashioned" style you posted, though obviously the old fashioned would be easier to come by.

My current favorite glass is this William's-Sonoma single old fashioned cut crystal glass. It's not cheap (I paid about $12 for mine on sale but they're usually $16 each) but it is beautiful and heavy and feels great in the hand. Pure class if that's what you're after:

If you're more of a conisseur, i've been coveting a set of these "Glencairn wide bowl whisky glasses." I also have the original glencairn glass which is of the same shape, but narrower. I like the design on these more I think:

I also came across these which look pretty neat if you're into the 60's aesthetic. They're called the "Madison Avenue Whisky Glass."

I have the Riedel glasses, but they are made so thin and light that IMO, they just feel too flimsy in the hand. I suppose I prefer a heavier glass.

the glencairn glass is probably the one and only glass for a whisky...
At least, i like sipping whisky from such a glass...
