Thread: Scotch help !!

Looking to buy another bottle of Scotch single malt around 50.00 cuz my Glenmorangie 12 sherry cask only has a dram left,and looking to try another spirit. So far i tried McCallum (sp) and the glenmorangie and loved both. Any advise ????? thanks

Time to graduate. Try one of the Islays. Given your history, I would suggest Lagavulin, though it may run 60 -70 bucks. Crash course, try Laphroig, a little cheaper.

I never met a (single malt) Scotch I didn't like (at least a little bit) and I agree with pcb01, the Lagavulin will be smokier but have a sweeter finish than the Laphroaig, which has a nice oceanic seaweed/iodine medicinal tang to it. All good stuff though.

I've not experienced the Laphroaig "Quarter Cask" but supposedly it's flavor profile is more popular with those used to Whiskys from other regions.

Have you tried the Glenmorangie "Quinta Ruban"? The last 2 years of maturation are in high grade port pipes instead of sherry casks. Very nice and very reasonably priced, too.

My current favorite dram is The Glendronach 15 year, a Speyside malt which has been described as close to Macallan, but I think the toffee character is more pronounced... I almost taste oatmeal cookies, I could swear it. Great stuff.

Laphroaig is nice.

If you like peaty single malts, Lagavulin and Laphroig are at the top of my list. These are the functional equivalent of a nice full bodied Cuban cigar.

If you really want to treat yourself, pick up a bottle of Laphroaig Cask Strength. Though you might want to dilute it with just a bit of spring water.
