What is your favorite single malt scotch?

Anyway, my list:

1 Anything from Islay (particulary Ardbeg)
2 Glenmorangie 18yo
3 Mortlach

I do like the Port cask matured Glenmorangie but it gives me a headache like someone's trying to peel off my skull with pliers. This deters me a little.

sadly, I will be scotchless for a few months...however, on the upside this is due to a razor I purchased from Bill.

Didn't know Lagavulin was no longer made...I used to have a bottle of it before I moved. I'm pretty sure I gave it away (just no room for my collection) at the time.

Are you sure about this? The various scotch websites don't mention it, and googling for "lagavulin closed" turns up only pages describing the distillery tour, mentioning the times of year when the distillery is closed for tours.

I have a friend who worked on Orkney for a year. He introduced me to Highland Park - very bright, kinda fruity flavor. Good stuff.

I hope I'm wrong. It's a great Scotch. A good friend told me he'd read about it closing down. If it's still open, then that's all good.

When I can afford it--which isn't often--I'm particularly partial to the Balvenie. The port wood is especially good, as is the double wood. Highland Park is also really good, and I also like Glen Livet.

I'm a poor graduate student living on a teaching stipend, though, so I've been drinking more bourbon than scotch lately. Even that's getting expensive, though.

Vodka!!!!! Scotch makes me barf.

Another Islay scotch that I like is Bunnahabhain. It's a bit lighter than other Islays that I've had but it's still really good. It's quite smooth with a hint of fruit.

For the peaty scotches, Lagavulin is great, with Laphroig a close second (my friends call it LeapFrog)

But the peaty scotches are more of an acquired taste. When I introduce people to scotch, its usually the MacCallen 18 (I have an unopened bottle of Mac 25!) or Glenmorangie.
