Thanked: 68Anvil Shooting
Not sure if this belongs here or in the workshop forum
Was looking through some restore pics from gssixgun and saw his anvil... it reminded me of this.
Given the appreciation of older things and the wide range of members here I thought someone might enjoy seeing another "older" past-time still being pursued...

As he's World Champion , I wonder how many other nations take part. Imagine the fun travelling with an anvil or two, especially at the baggage check in.

I hear quite a substantial part of the world isn't in World Series baseball.
Anvil shooting used to be done by putting a rather smaller amount of black powder in the hardy hole, the hole near the blunt end of the top surface in which punches could be inserted. The trouble was that it was nearer one end than the other, and so imparted a violent turning movement on takeoff. That is where anvils with a broken beak come from, as one struck against the other. As anvils are made to withstand the greatest impact a blacksmith's muscles can impart, it shows how much energy gunpowder, properly or improperly harnessed, can deliver.
I suppose with anvils, unlike many another thing, you can't surreptitiously dispose of it to conceal your embarrassment.
Some adventurers dispensed with a fuse, and relied on a thin trail of gunpowder sandwiched between the surfaces of the anvil. That sounds like they ought to have had their heads examined, and nowadays would very possibly get it.
