What types of watches do you like?

Well...I think it was pretty rough, Spendur. Not defending Phrank. He can do that pretty well himself.
IMO, It could be interpreted as such..

Phrank is not so informed on watches, so he might want to learn.
Oh that's not whats going on, though.

You see, Phrank paid too much and is working for free slapping that watch together.
After all, he ain't no watchmaker for certain.

No, he's a big boy and he made the eyes open decision to buy the watch and do the assembly. There is nothing wrong with that.

I was just addressing this to others who may decide to do the same and may not realize.

I mean, you go to the website and they spell it out for you.

I think it's cool that phrank will be wearing a watch he made himself.

As far as "simply" assembling one. I don't follow the train of thought there. When was the last time any of us heard of any one or any watchmaker turning to his tiny lathe or spring winder or milling thingy to make the cogs and so on to make a watch from scratch.

I say go for it, you maybe asembling it but no more than anyone else, even the big guys buy in all the watch parts to assemble.

It's like I say to my wife when we're shopping, no name beans are just premium beans with their own label to keep the cost down, Loblaws and Safeway do not have a baked bean factory, they buy from one of the few factories and have their own label put on.

Today I'm wearing my trusty Seiko SKX 007 Japanese production automatic diver, the watch has been my daily user for years, it's running a few minutes fast over the course of a week, but that doesn't really bother me, trouble with having it serviced by Seiko UK, they don't really service the watch they just throw in a completely new movement in the watch and charge you £100.

You could say that about anything. If you are a carpenter you don't grow the trees and cut the wood and kiln dry it. You don't make your own nails and even if you use a hammer you didn't make that.

It's all a matter of degree.

I wore some wrist watches when I was a kid. I would trash them in no time.
Was too active and always working on something. I quit wearing/buying them.

Remember the Timex commercials where they would strap a Timex to a boat prop and skim the lake?
'Takes a licking and keeps ticking'. I could trash one faster than that. No option for an expensive one to trash!

For a while I would have a 'Scotty' or similar 'dollar watch' in my pocket. Those sucked.
Pretty much gave it up.

The idea of a 'dress watch' appealed to me. Then, it always bugged me to wear them on my wrist.
My wrists are pretty narrow and the ones which looked nice on me were pretty hard to find in a Men's watch.
My experience was never good with watches and jewelry of any kind so I gave it up at an early age and let everyone wear my watch for me.

In those days folks were proud to display their watch and share the time. Now, some seem annoyed to look at their phone for you.
If I was in the field, a wrist watch with half a band in my pocket was the most lasting and durable thing I had.

I still shun watches and jewelry. Bugs me to wear. My flip phone is my watch :D
Still, I admire a nice watch worn by those who still do.

I agree with you, I do choose which watch to wear if i am going out but never wear one at home. I have clocks everywhere, the time on my computer and my phone goes everywhere in my pocket so even in the garden i know what time it is, I can even set the alarm so I know when it's lunchtime.

I wear a watch day in and day out. The only time it comes off my wrist is when I shower and reset the time on my watch at the same time. I don't normally carry a cell phone, only when we leave the house is that turned on. Anyone can call us on our landline or leave a message on the answering machine. If I want to take a photo I grab a camera and if I need to use a PC there is my desk top. I dislike multi function devices.
