I'm not so sure about that. Hank III's sound varies from his grandfather's enough to where I'd say it's his own, but he still talks about how he doesn't like his dad's music because it spawned today's country music. Also, in Not Everybody Likes Us he sings "Kid Rock's a yank, he ain't no son of Hank..." so yea I could see where you're coming from. However, he didn't start out doing this style of music and his latest three cds, This Ain't Country Music which was unreleased to the public, Hellbilly Joker, and Attention Deficit Domination are far from his normal sound. I think he just enjoys playing whatever he's in the mood for. However, I really wish he would just stick with the country stuff. On that note however, here's more Hank III. This song has elements of that newer stuff that I was talking about, but still keeps the roots.

A few of my favorites:
Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger - YouTube
Waylon Jennings - Bob Wills is Still the King (Studio Version) - YouTube
Of course Merle Haggard
Merle Haggard - Today I Started Loving You Again - YouTube
And when I listen to Merle, I can't help but bring up this song:
MERLE HAGGARD - It's Been A Great Afternoon - YouTube
And last but certainly not least...IMHO, if you don't dig George Jones and this song in particular, you should immediately suspend listening to any music of any genre.
George Jones-He Stopped Loving Her Today.... - YouTube
The thing about most of these guys (and certainly Johnny Cash) is that if you read their biography and had no idea who they were you'd probably say, "country singer." Not so with the modern rabble of cutesy pop stars like Taylor Swift or Kenny Chesney. The latter however (IMHO) is a capable musician and song writer but most of his stuff sounds like a jingle to a commercial.
George Jones is by far my favorite country artist. I also enjoy Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, David Allen Coe, Hank Williams, Jerry Jeff Walker and Merle Haggard. Bluegrass is another favorite as well, with the Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe in the rotation.
If you like bluegrass, check out Old and In The Way. It was a Jerry Garcia (of the Greatful Dead) bluegrass side project. Rumor has it that bluegrass was Jerry's first love.
I was almost with you on that HWIII tune until the 'nu metal' screams in the chorus. Just uncalled for. I guess we'll agree to disagree.
1OldGI has some great stuff. I would add this one for Merle Haggard:
Merle Haggard - Mama Tried - YouTube
And my favorite Hank Williams, just for effect:

And another, City of New Orleans, by the Highwaymen: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings

It took me years but I have learned
that "Men cannot live on Johnny Cash alone".

I like me some odd Johnny Cash (the earlier stuff, although the 'Cash' stuff from the 90's ain't bad either), Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson. Although the past year I've been listening a lot to Flatts & Scrugs, and some random Bluegrass I could find (which isn't that much, here up north).
