As a Brit it always seems so strange how you guys talk so casually about carrying a gun like it's putting on a tie..... Which I suppose it is for you guys :)
Yes,,,,, sometimes I wear two ties,,,,,
I do carry whenever I go out. I live in a rural area, but there are still people out there that could harm myself or my family( meth heads are a huge problem). I have never used my weapon or pulled it from my holster ( other than range or situation training). that being said I have snapped the retainer and that click stopped the problem in it's tracks. Once I had problem, I removed myself as far as I could. I called 911. I was describing the guy and also myself I did not want the deputy to shoot me and let him know there is a weapon present . The last thing I wanted to do was shoot this guy, because he was a dumb***. I am 6'2" and a pretty solid 210lbs but he still kept charging at me and I honestly did not know his intentions. My father was with me and I would not have let him cause harm to either one of us. I had my hand on my pistol the entire time, but presenting it would have been the last resort.
I feel a citizen who carries a weapon should only use their weapon when all other options have been eliminated. If possible, I try to look for the threats before I walk into a bad situation. Such as, when I come out of a store, I stop and look over the parking lot for problems. When I go to a restaurant, I seat facing the entry. A lot of this is due to police training I have received.
I also carry a less than lethal weapon. It will be either a black snake ( collapsible baton ) or a slap jack (leather paddle filled with lead). this was my Grandfather's and it has saved us both at times.
As I said, I hope to ever pull my pistol on someone. If the situation does not allow any other options, I will not hesitate to use deadly force to protect my family or a innocent person.
I have always said if someone has to go to prison for murder , better me than the the guy planted in the ground.
Using deadly force is a huge responsibility and should not be taken lightly by anyone who choses to carry. Training should include more than shooting at the range. I have seen trained Deputies who could not recover after a justified shooting. If you think shooting a person will not affect you emotionally and possibly physically because you are a badass. you are sadly mistaken.
This is only my opinion and based on my experiences.
with the world as it is these days with crime and drug abuse as it is I believe every country has too much crime. too many murders. I believe that everyone anywhere in this world should have the God Given Right to defend himself and or his family. A firearm is no more than a tool for which to do so. When you take the firearm away from a law abiding citizen all you've done is give it to the criminal. I am an American and as long as I breath I will carry something to do that very thing. How ever at my age I don't believe I could wheel a broad sword. I have carried a pocket pistol for at least 50 years and have been privileged not to have to use it. Hope I never will but I had rather have it and not need it as to need it and not have it. I believe it the law but when I watch the news it looks like not everyone does. We can not keep a policeman in our pocket but we can keep a means to protect ourselves.
I work at a small law firm and they felt much the same way when I started. After several long conversations, a few range sessions (with the 73 year old owner), and a few office wide seminars on self defense they've changed their minds and now actually take comfort in the fact I carry.
Sometimes I wear 2 guns..
Saw this news story yesterday: http://www.9news.com/story/news/loca...guns/11916607/
I have seen a picture that pretty much sums up my thoughts on guns "Saying we don't need guns because we have police is like saying we don't need fire extinguishers because we have firemen."
Remember it's a "Show & Tell" thread,,,,,,,,,,,,
.........so show them & tell us about them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:beer2:
Here's one of them Hirlau...the others to follow later. they were acquired one at a time, like my SRs...beyond the number my wife thinks I "need". Then there's ammo.....
The other ones shall be for a later post, suffice it to say, we're safe here :gwh:
Here is my 1991 Gold Cup Delta Elite with a G-20 Glock 2nd generation 10mm on the right, and a 'baby' Glock G-29 on the left. I'm told that '91 was the only year Colt made the Gold Cup in blue for 10mm ;

Here is the same G-20 flanked by the same G-29 10mm. The G-20 now sports a Bar-sto barrel and is a tack driver ;

Dang Jimmy, :dropjaw:,,, you get one more & somebody might call you a Prepper !!!
:rofl2:
If I ever hit the lottery and have the $ I'll own a Bren Ten and a Dan Wesson in 10mm .......
That'll work,,,,,:beer2:
I remember when Don Johnson made the Bren Ten famous. I believe the 10 mm is at its best with stouter hand loads, or have newer factory offerings fixed that?
Speaking of 80's guns, I had a Coonan Arms .357 semi-auto I let go years ago, wish I still had it!
There are a few companies putting out + P 10mm that is supposedly on par with the original Norma rounds. I'm not paying $35.00 for 20 rounds though so I load my own. I was lucky to score, if paying through the nose could be considered a score, 11 pounds of AA No.9 which is ideal for 10mm and 357sig, both of which I load. I make 'em as hot as I want 'em, and now I have enough powder to last me the rest of my life. Hope the primers don't disappear.
just a couple weeks ago i was getting a bite to eat at a restaurant bar with a friend , about 45 mins after we left a guy came in robbed the place and shot a guy ... i ALWAYS carry , and if it is a place where im not allowed ( store or restaurant ) they usually dont get my business .... my ex wife used to say i was paranoid cause i would tell my children things like " if this or that happens ill give you my phone and you guys go here or there , or point out emergency exits in places , or explain places for cover ... she is now in the process of getting her CCW permit in is telling them the same .. times are changing and i would rather have a gun on me and not need it then not have it and need it ..
there are a bunch of school districts here in Ohio who are considering concealed carry for teachers and i think 50+ teachers took a class already at a place in Ohio 2 weeks ago and more classes already booked that is a defensive and tactical training company that has incorporated a bunch of school related scenarios and such into there programs to meet what certification requirements would be needed ...
Just to clarify, I have no stance whatsoever for or against the carrying or ownership of guns.
Been from a country where gun crime is very rare (though on the up), I personally have only ever seen a real handgun or automatic in the airport and abroad. I honestly don't think I have the knowledge or experience to have a valid opinion on the subject.
To clarify my original post it was mearly an observation as to how normal firearms are in your society and how alien they are to someone like me who was brought up and live in a largely gun free society.
If you grew up watching John Wayne, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel ......... reading about Wyatt Earp, Jesse James, the civil war ........ God created man, Colonel Colt made them equal .....
I've got it from a good source that in the future they are gonna have "Blasters" and "Phasers" that will will have dual select switch that goes from stun to KILL !!!
I can't wait for the future,,,,,:beer2:
Yes but by then everyone will have a personal force field so the blasters will be obsolete.
,,,,,,,,didn't think of that,,,,:(
My daily carry is a Glock 30S with one extra magazine on my belt, while my wife's is a Sig Sauer 938 and extra magazine. Occasionally I'll pocket carry a Glock 42 in .380 if I'm just running down to the store in a pair of shorts. For more formal occasions it is either a Kahr PM9, or a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry. With you guessed it...and extra magazine on my belt.
Just like knives Steve, we like photos,,,,,,,,,:D
The kids and grandkids are leaving today after a week long visit. I'll try to get some pics. As far as a magazine carrier goes, the VAST majority of my IWB carry rigs are made by FIST. The holsters are the hybrid version, leather exterior with a kydex interior, and leather magazine carriers.
I'm a fan of 1911s. Here's two- .45 Kimber and a Springfield Armory 9mm. Picked up the 9mm as shooting a .45 at the range gets expensive.

I like the crossbreed holsters ... as far as spare magazines I like the Blackhawk retention mag holsters..

If your just now beginning to here of gun crime in your country there's probably more that you know about. The news media here in the states to me will only report one sided news. you here about the murders and robbers but not the self-defense firearms related news. also here in the cities the gangs are not controllable. drive by shootings dope related killings turf wars. the police I believe are afraid to act because of the fear of being sued or arrested themselves. When I was young (in the 50-60s) it really wasn't as bad but now the police go into a war zone every day and I really believe the news people are against the police. You know it reminds me of an old saying. The police are the sorriest so and so there ever was until you need one and then there the sorriest because there weren't there. they can't be every where. People don't realize for the most part the police investigate the crime. We the people are responsible to protect ourselves and family. I have the upmost respect for the law enforcement but if someone try's to harm me or my loved ones and there's no escape to be seen I will do what ever it takes and I believe most people will do the same. Now lets look at it this way. I'm old. My health isn't all that good. I'm not going to try to physically fight it out with larger stronger armed or not one or two or more bad guys. I carry a firearm. Hope I never have to use it but it is better to have it and not need it as to need it and not have it.. as far as training I was in the military and years ago on the police force.
I agree, we're about the same age I'd say. Things have DAMN sure changed. I work pretty much alone. I may have a crew working near me or I may not. We're allowed to carry concealed at work. As my job is out on the highways, I carry. I'm currently working a night job and will be for a few more weeks. Several of the repairs we have to do are in parts of town that we lovingly refer to as "indian country". We do have an off duty cop with us, but the job may be a mile long and the cop has to stay on the upstream end of the job while most of the work is on the downstream end. I hope and pray I NEVER have to use my gun again and would be happy if I wore it out in the holster. It's only there to use if I can't outrun the problem. I can't run worth a damn any more but I'll give my best try and that 3/4t diesel powered Dodge I drive at work is also a deadly weapon if I want it to be. ;)
Yeah, it's required to be concealed here. Open carry is a LOT less hassle, but I play by the rules. ;)
One time out in Tuscon, a buddy of mine and I got in a bit of tight spot with a handful of punks. The fact that both of us were open carrying changed the whole scenario, when we turned around and the punks saw what they could be dealing with. They moseyed on with their tails tucked between their legs. I carried my Hi-Power in a cross draw and my buddy had big Smith in a shoulder holster. I put my hand on my pistol and he did the same. Neither of us said a word but the look on their faces was priceless.
Dam I wish we could conceal carry in NZ....... Not that we really need to tho
Sad part is that laws like you gents have do not deter the criminal element. Makes it easier for them as they KNOW that most people will obey the law and are unarmed.
But HEY! It's easy to immigrate to the states these days. Just walk across and make yourself at home. ;)
