Default Does anyone else shoot a 6.5 creedmoor?

I have a custom Remington 700 chambered in 6.5 creedmoor with a 24" match grade barrel. I I have yet to run into anyone who shoots this caliber. Any of you guys use it? It's a great rifle, shoots better than I do. Would love to talk about the round, load, ballistics, anything.

You're not alone. There are really interesting things that happen at half mm diameters for BC/accuracy and have ever since the 6.5 was introduced way back when. The impressive 6.5x55 has been around a long time in Mauser actions or variations. Modern bullet design and manufacturing has significantly improved on what seemed 30 years ago to be a natural sweet spot for that caliber. The wide range of ball weights allows for hunting up to and including big game where the accuracy of the shot makes up for raw blunt force. In good hands the accuracy over range can be impressive compared to more common calibers.

Some years ago I rebuilt a Savage 11 in 6.5x47 Lapua (1 mm case difference than the Creedmoor) and it's almost boring to shoot under 400 meters unless there are challenging shooting conditions. The 260 Remington was the first wildcat load, parent for both these rounds.

I'm motivated by the natural characteristics of the 6.5 observed over a long time shooting for accuracy and that Lapua sees something in the ball enough to move it into production is just icing on the cake. With bullet designs that "fly" and aren't just thrown downrange by raw power, it gets more interesting.
