I am not an expert on them. I prefer western grind. I've handled only a couple kamisori. From what I can tell, the ones I've held had that ration too. Of course, because the grind is different, that doesn't mean that the spine is still 6 mm thick. I think it would be more correct to say that the 4:1 ratio is valid in the sense that in order to have a good geometry, you use a bar of stock that is 4:1 to create the kamisori that fits inside that bar.

I find them interesting. Can't wait to see them finished and find out how they shaved. Thought the Kamisori's thumb notch was unique.
