    Talking High-Budget Grinder

    Hello Folks,

I planing to make a good grinder. Something similar to this:

But modified as a wet grinder. Now I have the possibility to made it with a 5 cm wide belt or with a 7,5 cm wide. What do you think, is the better option? I think it is easier to make a even hollow ground, when the whole blade match to the belt, or is this a misapprehension? My actuall belt grinder has a 5 cm belt, but perhaps with the wider one the work will go easier?

I like the smaller belts, but then again that is what I am most used to. I think it is generally accepted that bigger belts are better. The 2X72 seems like the standard.

That modular aluminum track looks like a good way to build tools.

I don't think it would be easier to grind the hollows with a wider belt. The best way to do it evenly and well is to practice, there is no "magic bullet". With that being said, it will be much easier and probably cheaper to find 2" (~5 cm) belts than the wider size.
