I just recently received my "giveaway" razor honed by a master, and it showed me just how far I have yet to go in mastering the honing art. Even my other honemiester honed and me refreshed razor just didn't quite compare. So I took the me refreshed razor and gave it five light strokes on a lathered Swaty and boom one lightly over-honed razor. I guess it was as sharp as the tools I have could make it. I will have to give this a try on that razor it might just give it that last extra ooomph.

I took the razor I used yesterday down to the newspaper hone tonight and gave it a quick fifty laps with a spine forward stroke, then stropped and shaved. It did sharpen the edge up better than it has been but it wasn't all that smooth, we'll see how it is after more leather strop work, it may smooth out. You might want to give it 50 laps each day until it gets where you want it. I'd do them after the morning stropping before you shave.
I gotta say I'm really impressed with the use of newsprint as a final polishing step. I've done it on several 2nd tier razors so far and it has improved the edge on all of them. My 2nd tier razors are now as sharp as my 1st tier razors to be, and I'm really kind of curious how it'll do on my wonderedge. The razor needs to be as sharp as you can get it before going to newsprint because it's so slow, but it works like a charm. I've gotten distracted by an experiment so it'll take awhile before I get around to this, but so far I gotta say major :tu to the newspaper. First use I've found for the Houston Comical since I could afford TP...
