I have bought a couple of gold dollars in the past to practice honing on, until now I have always opted for sellers who claimed them to be shave ready (usually a debatable claim) a couple of days ago I ordered one from ebay that actually stated it needed to be sharpened, I was attracted by the chance to practice on something that has never been worked on before.

So it turned up tonight. Poor scales but tight, reasonable looking and feeling razor for the price. They are what they are I guess, no need to analyse them further. I put it to my Norton 1k and two sets of 40 circles with slight pressure and 20 light x strokes and the hair was popping right off my arm. Started pyramid at 25 laps on the 4/8k and it was tree topping arm hair with ease. I gave my bbw a miss and went right to chromium oxide on news paper for a strop.

My baby then decided to interrupt me and rudely demand milk and bed.

Inconvenience dealt with it was off for a shave test. I have to say I really was pleased with it. A very smooth and comfortable shave. I couldn't believe how easy the bevel took, how it progressed through the stones, and the end result.

I've just had a great two hours, hope everyone else has at least as many good hours as I had today
