Default What are your shaving choices on Father's Day

For me, in honor of my great dad who taught me to shave, I used a J-4 Gillette Slim adjustable, which is what he gave me to use for my first "fuzzy lip" shave in '64...a Semogue boar brush (closest I could come), Williams soap, followed by a slash of vintage Old Spice, which I've hoarded for the last 30 years...(still smells the same). It's the scent I remember from 60 years ago, when he's get home late from work and tuck me in bed!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads in SRP!

Every fathers day I pull out the old panasonic wet dry electric razor and lather with some quality soap and fire up the razor and when I'm done I feel like a plucked chicken. I dare not use the alum block or any alcohol based AS. I use an iced towel after that. Then about 8 hours later I need another shave. You ask why do I torture myself like that? I do it in honor of my dad. That's how he shaves and he'll be 99 next month and thinks it's the only way. He won't listen to me. He says he remembers when he was a kid and his father used a straight and come shave time all he heard was cursing coming from the bathroom. When the razor needed honing he sat at the dining room table invoking the devil from the time he started to the time he finished.

You could say he was scared straight from the razor.

Every Sunday my routine is face lathered La Toja with a Gillette Blue Tip DE and Old Spice original, (would love to try the old recipe, but I just have the new stuff). My dad always used a Gillette adjustable DE when I was a kid followed by Brut.

Wash face with Nivea face scrub, pre-shave with Biolage oil and Glycerine, whip up a little Bigelow lather, apply with a SOC boar I'm breaking in, remove whiskers with a Shumate Barber Deluxe, finish with a dab of Corn Huskers lotion (honoring dad).

I purposely waited till today to shave. I took the time to not rush an just do my own thing. I am a head shaver too so here is my run down.

Hot shower, face an head wash with headblade products, preshave pacific oil, 3 pass with "Easy Aces", Minor touch up with Gillette slim, DRH Windsor soap, Nivea AS. Great relaxing shave. Then spent the rest of the day passing baseball with the kids an dinner with family. Great day.
