A new perspective
Like a lot of folks I started out with the Geman razors. Good equipment but not know how to use them. This was in the late 60s. I played with the razors for a while then put them up and went into the Air Force. I got them out again and again used them then put them up. Still didn't have a clue as to how to properly use them. This goes on back and forth for a long time then in the last couple of years got back into it. Found this site and SRD. I was fortune enough to really talk to a long time straight shaver and he suggested the heavier sheffields. well I was able to get a blade from him a wostenholm 7/8 I think . it was hollow ground but not extra hollow. I put a set of scales on it and to my supprize I was able to shave OK with it. Not great you know but OK. This started me in the quest for the heavier sheffields. I now have several but as a lot of folks not enough. Now I also have a few german razors good blades not the best but good blades. I started using them some . I guess with talking to my friend and this site I begain to learn more and more and now I get great shaves with either the sheffields or the geman blades. All sizes too. I now have the 4/8 up to 15/16 razors and from extra hollow ground to a full wedge. I guess this is a long winded way of saying that If the razor is sharp and you do your home work any razor will be a good shaver. It's the wanting to learn and the willingness of others to teach. So this is just a little thanks to all the guys here at the SRP that I've learned from and to the friend that has been so patient with me while I've been on the fun journey.
