Cold Water Shave. Wonderful!

Very hot and humid here in Toronto this summer. With no A/C the thought of hot steamy water for shaving was too much to bear. Tried a cold water shave for the first time. Wonderful.

I always thought a cold water shave wouldn't soften the beard creating a less comfortable shave. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Try an ice cube as aftershave, or splash some ice cold gin. Y'll be surprised.

I'm not a fan of A/C and don't have it at home, here in south/central Illinois. I always use warm water, after a shower, to shave with. I have, however, used cold water while camping. The initial shave seems to be the same. However, later that evening, it was like I hadn't shaved. Not as much, but a definite difference in visual appearance. I always thought "maybe it was because the cold water, and I didn't get as close as normal." ?!?!

Maybe, I'm just more "Manly" when I'm camping, therefore grow a beard quicker. lol

Cold water shaves work just as well, it's the lather that really preps the beard, BUT I gave up the cold water shaves 45 years ago,, nothing wrong with them I just like mine warm. You guys who live north of us here in Memphis might not like AC but here you ain't sleeping so well in the summer without it, I like the comforts of the temp controlled house, trust me years working in the oilfield in temps well above what most ever see, I can take it, but no I,m not going too. Tc

One thing I learned from that book (1905) that started me cold water shaving was to lather up, rub the lather in vigorously, and then lather again and shave. The rubbing the first lather in is all the prep I do and it works for me. YMMV.

Glad it worked for you. I've been a year round cold water shaver going on 3 years or so. Even with my A/C or furnace going I still shave with cold water. Not for everyone though.

2nd cold water shave ever Sunday gone. Mainly because the hot water cylinder took a dump. Not overly pleasant being it was a cold autumn day, but a good end result.
