Default Some things we just take for granted

I have just had the worst few days shaving ever. I have lived a few places in my life but now I just moved to a new flat for the summer.
I have lived in this town before and always had a water softener as we are cursed with hard water.(Very very hard water)
There is no softener in my new flat and I cannot make lather at all. It is awful, I just bought 3 new creams but I cannot use them as I need half a tub just to get a little bit of foam.
I now need to buy a kettle for my bedroom to heat bottled water I guess. Oh well!

    Tough break mate!

Hoping I don't have this type of problem when I am in Canary Wharf, though I doubt it. I assume you won't be getting a softener as you are only there temporarily correct?

London's water is pretty hard, though not as bad as in weymouth it seems. I use a little more cream than in soft water areas, but I definitely get a lather.

Why don't you just buy a bottle of distilled water to make lather with? This would be much easier and quicker than trying to distill your own. On the other hand you can shave classically and make your own water and make your own shave soap by hand out of animal fat lol.

Don't bother with distilled water, it's overkill. Deionised (deionized) water should be fine. You could also try running the water through one of those "brita" drinking water filters. As far as I know they employ Ion exchangers that'll take out the salts responsible for screwing up your lather. Even if that doesn't work, you won't have spent all that much cash so it can't hurt to try.

I managed an acceptable lather this morning with bottled boiled water. I'm sure however that after 3 months living here I could have bought a water softener with the money spent on water!(its not worth buying one for me as I am moving back to Poland in october)
The next trick is to take some very large bottles to my parents house..........
