Oil?
Hi! I'm new to SRP and am activily trying to learn everything I possibly can prior to getting my very first straight razor. The information I've found here already is a gold mine and I thank you all for the time and detail you've provided. It's great!
I still have MANY questions (about every aspect, really so any comments or advice are WAY welcome) but the one that came up today was regarding oiling a blade between uses. Do you do it?? I've now read two sites that say "ALWAYS" but I haven't noticed anything mentioned HERE (which confuses me as HERE is to me, the definitive razor site!).
Thanks everyone!

If you use a food-grade oil like mineral oil that's supposed to be used as a laxative, you certainly can oil the blade b/w shaves.. However, as long as you keep it dry and soap-free and use it on a regular basis, it's not necessary unless you're living in a really humid climate. I only oil blades that are going into long-term storage.

I agree with Ilija. I only oil my razors when I won't be using them for a while. Also, I store them outside the bathroom. I've never had a problem with rust.

Thanks guys, I was thinking it might be a good idea to store it outside the bathroom (away from the steam)...
Still pouring through threads So much info here!

Thanked: 2209I store my razors in the bathroom. I use tissue paper to dry the blade, let it set for an hour or so and then apply some oil.
So far it has worked for me.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
