Default Took one for the team...

There are very few things in life that I'll pass up for $8, so after hearing a radio ad for Harry's shaving giving me a code that I could use to try a set-up for $8, in I jumped, thinking this will be interesting.

I set up an account, paid my $8 and got my "razor handle", a blade, shaving gel and face balm. It arrived, nicely packaged, and off to the shave area I went to test it on one day's growth. My impressions:

The gel: was one of those pressurized cans where a little gel squirts out and when touched to the face becomes "foam" of a sort. In fact a dime sized amount creates enough puffy stuff that you could shave a whole sheep if it would stand still. It's not very slick, but it does foam up to beat the band.
The handle: Is one of those proprietary things that would work with no other cartridge. It was actually comfortable to hold and had some semi-unique features, but really has no redeeming qualities as a grooming tool.
The blade: is a cartridge holding five very fine (tiny) edges for a shave...EXCEPT...their gel gums it up so fast that it spends more time under the running water getting clean enough to get to your skin that shaving your whole face takes a long time. It gave a decent first shave, which lasted (for me) less than 16 hours, at which point my wife said, "I thought you shaved today?!?"
The balm: is greasy and has almost no scent.

So there you have it. Harry's appears to be a Gillette cartridge knock-off that gives a typical cartridge shave. I tried using it with real shaving soap twice more, and each shave was worse than the one before it. Today the whole mess goes in the trash (I may keep the balm for my elbows which tend to get dry.)

I will give them credit that once I cancelled my account online, I have not been harassed or otherwise bothered by them. $8 essentially flushed, but hey, maybe it'll save another curious SRPer their $8! So long Harry!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

    Cool Nuh-uh...NOOOO way!!

Sorry, Cangooner, but I already know how well cartridge razors work for me. I can't imagine a slight amount of heat from the 5-pass-in-one blades doing much to counter their skin flaying prowess.

Give me a straight razor shave or give me death*!

*(to be honest, I'd resort to the Wahl trimmer in a pinch)
