Ed, are you sure he isn't pulling your leg? I mean, if he knows there are 7-day sets (which you don't exactly see every day) then he must know more than he lets on?

Maybe, since he knows you're fairly new at the hobby, he's low keying it so you don't ask him to hone your razor .

Or you could be right... he just isn't interested... he does a single pass shave and is satisfied that the result is "as good as a mach3".

You bring your 454, I'll bring my S&W 500 and we'll see who makes the most noise

(you know, it's so heavy, it really doesn't kick much, but it's like holding a stick of dynamite going off - yowzers!)

What gets me is guys I see that bring their wives and girlfriends to a shooting range and hand her a .44 magnum or some such large bore pistol and say:"Here, honey, try this one. Don't worry; it doesn't kick much at all...." Well, she points it toward the target, squeezes the trigger and after she shrieks and throws it down on the bench she runs back to the car and sits there with arms folded and wearing a scowl.

DwarvenChef, when I worked the back of the house, I would get funny look from the other chefs when I pulled out a aircraft aluminum briefcase and opened it to reveal my set of Henckels Professional knives, each in its own little spot in foam rubber. They would use the industrial knive which a supply service switched weekly. Mine were sharp enough that you didn't notice a cut, until you saw the blood. When salmon had to be skinned or the like, it was funny that no one could find the disposo-knives and mine were in demand.

The better chefs understood that cuisine is not only the inspiration for the dish, but the best ingredients and the correct tools.

Some folks just never get it......and try to explain, for example that garlic chopped with a 12" chef's knife tastes differently than that in a Cuisinart.....

    Rrrrrrrrr!

    Eric,

Either he pulls your leg or he can do with some education. Invite him to your home, ask him to bring his stuff and show him yours. Maybe you could even start a contest: who can hone the sharpest blade etc. Use your imagination.

That assumes he wants to learn. He probably doesn't from his reaction so far.
Trying to might even make working with him awkward because you'll be that guy who is obsessed with shaving.

Anyone trying to get me to tune my lawnmower and hand hone the blades would get a 'whatever' and be placed in the lawnmower weirdo category.
I don't hold it against anyone to be passionate about a hobby, but I understand that other people simply don't care. if they care, they will jump on the subject once it is broached.

Eric broached the subject twice and got absolutely no interest so the best thing to do is to leave it at that.

Some guys will go to any lengths to tick off their wives. But I'd guess this one is more "Hey Honey, look how big and strong I am, I don't even think this is hard." After doing a LOT of research and some testing I finally got my wife a .38 LadySmith. Beautiful gun and she handles it well.

I agree 100%. Maybe just drop a similar comment every two to three years to see if anything's changed.
