    Default Flying with straight razors

It appears that in the near future, I will be doing some travelling for work. As I will be flying, I wanted to know how to travel with a straight razor. Can I put one in my carry on? Or, do I need to check my luggage to be able to travel with one? Please let me know, I don't want to travel without one.

    Thank you,
    Bill

No way you can take a straight in your hand luggage, on any airline, in any country, domestic or international. From what others have said in the past, there can be a number of options.

[1] Take a DE and source blades wherever you end up (some have said that they've taken blades for DE's in hand luggage, I believe).

[2] Buy a Feather straight (or similar) and again source blades where you end up. I think Bruno does this, so maybe he can chime in about the realities of packing spare blades for the Feather...)

[3] Take your straight, but check in your luggage.

I often fly to NY for business and I tried to persuade the office to keep my Wapi there for when I come over in future. So no need to pack at all. But no way would they even consider it due to Health & Safety law.

You know, nowadays you really don't wait long for baggage reclaim, especially post-9/11 when passport control now takes so long to process (for international travel, of course). In fact, last time I traveled to the USA with nothing but a small carry-on I kept getting pulled by Customs, Security, and Immigration. Apparently they couldn't believe I was flying London-to-Miami just for a 24 hour stay. It would have been a lot less hassle to check a bag into the hold!

    Bill,

I have done it a few time but I always packed it in my luggage and not in my carry-on. I also never take a favorite blade in the odd chance it might disappear from my luggage.

I've put my razor in checked luggage several times with no problems. But I hate having to check a bag, so I've also mailed razors to my hotel in advance of my trip.

I'm buying a vintage injector for when I really don't want to check my bag. You can carry them on, right?

I'd guess you can't since I've had TSA screeners take DE blades from me (before I switched to straights.)

I have always checked my straights along with my pocket knife. Never had any problems until this past weekend when my pocket knife went missing from the side pocket I had dropped it into. My straigths, which I aways wrap in a towel and put in the main compartment along with my clothes, shaving stuff, etc. went through fine. I usually put my pocket knife in the main compartment as well, but not this time.

I'm hoping this won't be a poblem because the injectors are contained in a cartridge-like thingy.

Just came back from a short getaway to NYC and took my straight in my checked luggage. No Prob. I would not suggest taking any sharp objects (injectors etc) in a carry on bag unless you don't mind having it confiscated and potential problems with your personal detainment . Check it and you'll be fine. Good Luck!
