Default Barbershop Straight-razor shave in Durham, NC

One day last week my girlfriend was going through a pack of coupons she got in the mail, and she handed me one. It was for $3 off at a place called the Renaissance Barbershop.

My hair was getting kind of shaggy, so this morning I went and checked them out. It's basically an old-fashioned barbershop. I got a nice haircut, and had them trim my beard. And I got a shave!

It started with some Art of Shaving pre-shave oil, followed by a nice hot towel. Then came some warm machine-generated foam, applied with a high-quality badger brush. The shave was using a disposable-blade straight razor. Then a cool towel, and Art of Shaving after-shave balm. A very nice experience, indeed!

Haircut is $17, Shave is $15. With my coupon the total was $29.

They have a website, too... http://www.therenaissancebarbershop.com/index.htm

I checked out their website, that barbershop is just COOL!

I would go there just to hang out.

I need to see if the Phoenix area has anything like this.

I had been getting my hair cut at Great Clips, where it cost $11. But this experience was so much more pleasant, that I'll gladly spend the extra $6 to go to Renaissance. I only get my hair cut every five or six weeks, anyway. So an extra $1 a week to feel like I'm pampered seems like a good deal.

I probably won't get a shave every time I go, but it's a nice special treat now and then. The owner, who shaved me, really knows his stuff. I would recommend a newbie to straight shaving get a shave here, because you'll learn a lot from having Tim shave you. (I think his name is Tim. I'm awful about names. He gave me his card, but I lost it.)
