    Default Show off your craftiness!

So there are a bunch of members who are very skillful with tools and building stuff, so I figured it might be fun to post the project you are most proud of having built yourself... something you can't help but look at and wonder, "did I really make that?" Kids don't count lol.

Here's mine, it's the three guitars I've built in chronological order from left to right. They're definitely not perfect, but they were a lot of fun! The hardest part was always bending the sides without cracking them.

I'm anxious to see what all everyone else has built!

Sorry! I generally only fix things that other people built! My children are the only things that me and my wife, with a little help from the grand designer, built ourselves!

I make lots of stuff. I get bored and find something to try out. Make it in a night and then find something else to try. LOL

    Here are just a few:

    USB charger
    PICTURE

Custom sewn shift boot for my car
    PICTURE

Small english wheel (only for proof of concept)
    PICTURE

    My NES controller MP3 player
    PICTURE

    My bug bot
    PICTURE

    A shift knob I lathed
    PICTURE

Some handles I did for a grill my class fixed up
    PICTURE 1
    PICTURE 2

That is just a few things I have messed around with. I have tons more. I sorta have a rule:

"If I dont know how to do something, just give me a few hours and I will."

JMS: Hey man, fixing stuff can be more valuable a skillset than making stuff I wish I were better at that, especially with things like machines and cars.

Windcalmer: holy crap, you're quite the tinkerer! I have a buddy from way back in junior high that would build little robots and stuff, and I always thought that was wicked cool.

My wife and I built the barn you see in this picture last spring. Well she helped! I did most of the heavy lifting as well as the design.

No "Handiness" involved just graft. This is the job I just finished. 68' Danish trawler needing a full re-caulk. Above the water her seams were very open and they swallowed the oakum.

edit: have to say building them is better fun than repairing but not enough new builds to earn a living.

I'll have to take a picture of the knife I forged around '81. Forge welded out of a piece of gun barrel, then soldered pommel and guard and finally epoxied in a kingwood grip. Fellow SCA types were all puzzled on how I got the wood in there. Heh, it's called grain matching dudes.
