There was a post a while back which contained a video of a rather interesting honing technique; unfortunately I never bookmarked the thread, and not knowing who the original poster was or who any of the respondents were I have been unable to find it again.
In the video, rather than going along the length of the hone in a standard X pattern, the honer pushes the razor up vertically and then brings it back down, without flipping the razor, in a scything motion.
I haven't really described this very well, but if it helps any, the one thing I can remember is that the hone being used was dark blue so maybe it was an Escher/Thuringen type. Also, I seem to recall the stone was spritzed from a spray bottle rahther than having water poured on it and then spread around.
I also remember that another member posted saying that they had used a similiar technique and had gotten one of their best edges using it, but had been unable to replicate this afterwards.
So can anyone help me find the thread in question, even if you can't link me it would be nice to know someone else remembers this and I'm not imagining things.
Kind regards,
Alex
