Finally did it

I was shaving this morning, as I often do. Things are going along smoothly as I'm trying to get the spots beneath my ears smooth in both directions. Lift up the razor to start an upward pass on my sideburns

AND SMACKED MYSELF ON THE CHEECK WITH THE TIP OF THE RAZOR.

It didn't hurt. I just remember thinking "Damn, that is going to bleed." It did. A lot. It might leave a scar, but another scar on my face at this point isn't a big deal.

Fortunately, I have a round point razor. Otherwise, my teeth probably would've been visible.

To make things better, I was at a potential client's site today and I have a cut on my cheek that makes me look all the world like I've been in a knife fight. Bet it made a good impression.

Another important lesson. If you use a lot of styptic pencil to close up a cut, some may be left over on your face after everything dries. Licking your finger once to wipe it off is ok. Licking your finger twice is a bad idea. Styptic pencil tastes like hell.

Don't feel too bad as we've all got our "battle scars". I have a nice permascar over my lip in the mustache area as well as a couple under the chin. BTW... a little honey or brown sugar will improve the taste of styptic.

I've got a good one on my earlobe but that was caused by my cat. I was lying in bed one morning when the cat jumped onto a small table by the bed and landed on a magazine and his momentum caused him to slide right off the edge. I looked over in time to see him flying at my head with paws outstretched and one of his claws clipped me. Bled quite a bit too.

It's always nice to finish up a shave with blood all over the place mixed in with the soap. Hopefully you won't scar. I've got a nice one on my cheek.

Seriously though - slow it down if you're not in full control of the blade.

I almost cut myself this morning. It's a horrible feeling when the razor feels like it wasnts to slide along its edge on my face, but I pulled the razor away and was fortunate to see only a speck of red for a few moments.

Thing was, I had been having a pretty good shave up to that point and hadn't gotten so much as a small nick in weeks.

Maybe the shaving gods just needed their blood sacrifice.

I was running late getting ready for my night shift job. In the hurry, I let my mind drift for about a nanosecond. The Wade&Butcher meat chopper indeed did chop-actually SLICED a 1/4 patch of skin from the jawbone edge of my jaw. It did not sting at all. I just saw the patch of skin on the blade amongst the lather. Then the blood. Then the blood. That afternoon was my last straight razor shave. It all happened on a very hot September day in the year 2005. All the shaving stuff, save my trusty MachIII became divested from the portfolio. Here I am again amongst yall. Going at it again acquiring all the things to make for a unique and rewarding shave. No more being late for work. I am now retired and have the time and passion for straight razor shaving. Ain't all this a lot of fun?!...RRR
