    Default How to prevent rust?

I learned a neat trick at the meetup I went to. The trick was to put rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray your razor after the shave, this would displace the water and evaporate.

The only problem is that it seems to slightly discolor my razor scales. Does anyone know a different technique? (I might try to water down the mixture)

If you are using alcohol to help evaporate the water, why would you want to dilute the alcohol with water???

If you want to use alcohol, dip the razor into the alcohol but don't submerge the scales.

"Rubbing alcohol" is not 100% pure. It contains water. Best to use Anhydrous (water free) alcohol.
I use a low tech thing called 'oil' to prevent rust.

I use a mixture of oil and alcohol. The alcohol evaporates and leaves a thin layer of oil behind.

I just make sure to keep water off everything except the blade. Then I dry the razor well. I often use a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to clean the razor further (soap, etc). Then I dry that off too. I leave the razor out and open for a few minutes and then store it outside of the bathroom. No problems with rust. Unless you're in a really humid environment, I don't think rust should be an issue if you dry the razor well.

I just put a little bit of mineral oil on the razor before I put it away. When I use it again I just wash off the oil with a little rubbing alcohol and toilet paper before I strop it. Oil's the way to go to prevent rust, at least that's what works for me.
