Default Flying with a straight razor

I'm going to fly tomorrow (technically today). I'll be there for a while, so I plan on mailing up my straight razors. I've never lost a razor in the mail, but I've seen lost/mistreated luggage, plus I get better insurance mailing.

My question is: Is it worth trying to take even ONE razor in checked baggage? Has anybody done it successfully or had problems? I'm planning on taking a trusty old Boker, wrapped in a paper towel for padding, and put in it's cardboard case, then put in with some clothes for even more protection. If it works I can straight shave when I arrive. If it fails I'm out whatever the eBay value of a fix-me-up Red Inun is.

I have traveled with a straight razor in my checked bags without a problem to date. It's the carry on where they confiscate them. Lynn

A few years ago, (post 9/11) I had problems with a "shavette" I had in my carry on, even though it was bladeless.

I've travelled with mine, both within the US and Internationally without any mishaps. Get ya some of those nifty hard plastic cases from Ray at Classic Shaving to protect your razors.

There certainly wouldn't be any security issues with it. You can put a gun in a checked bag.

It worked just fine. I shaved with it this morning for the first time w/o any problems.

I also checked the strop. That's probably a good idea, because some bright bag-checker might get the idea you could spank someone with it.
