Grindstones and Sheffield Steel
Not sure where to post this but here it is anyway. I was looking for something to use as an avatar when I remembered this shot from last summer and thought it very apt. It's taken at a place called Stanage Edge in the Derbyshire Peak District not far from my home. The stones that sharpened every Sheffield made blade, including all those straight razors that are so prized today, during the industrial revolution were cut from this millstone grit outcrop and when the industry died, hundreds of stones were left where they lay half finished and they remain to this day. As this was the first National Park created in the UK the stones became the NP symbol and they are set up at the boundaries wherever roads enter the parks throughout the UK.
