Why must bad things happen to good people?

So there I was...my trusty Dovo Bismarck in hand, happily shaving away. I don't know when it happened...it was too light for me to even realize I had done it.

You see, at some point during cleanup, I put a nick in my blade. I didn't realize it at first, that would have been too easy. No, instead it was revealed to me when I walked over to my SRD Premium II strop and promptly scratched the bejesus out of it.

Sensibly (), I spent lots of money trying to figure out which shaving cream/soap/aftershave I liked best instead of purchasing a backup razor. Naturally, it's a holiday weekend so nothing can be shipped anywhere until Tuesday. Perfectly, I held off on getting any kind of hones because I *knew* I wouldn't be needing one for months as my razor was brand new.

I love it when a plan comes together. All that careful shopping around to find a razor I liked, all those fancy creams and aftershaves.

One week of straight shaving. ONE WEEK.

*sigh*

I'm better now. I just couldn't think of anyone else who would really understand the misery of it all.

My beacon in the dark is Lynn at SRD. I emailed him about it all and I can get my razor fixed and shipped back to me with the backup razor I'll be ordering to save on shipping costs. Great customer service goes a long way in mending the hurt.

Dude, I did exactly the same thing about an hour after reading about another guy who just dinged his on the faucet. It happens to every one. This is an excuse to buy a hone.

That is an excuse to buy more razors, to get your monies worth right?

Sorry to hear that guys, that really would not be fun. It is really easy to nick a blade, especially on the faucet. I agree with having a backup razor, or back up everything. I have 3 razors, 3 brushes, soaps, creams, bowls, hones...The only thing I have 1 of is my strop.

I think you might be on to something there greg...I hadn't thought of it that way before.

Yes, it's becoming clear now. There is no other course but to purchase duplicates of everything! In the name of safety and security, of course.

That sucks. I wonder if it would be worth developing the habit of wiping the blade on a towel the way barbers do, instead of rinsing it under the tap.

I was in the exact same boat. Bought a TI from TAOS, used it, cleaned it and put it away. I took it out 15 minutes later after my very first shave to admire my expensive purchase and promptly dropped it in the sink, putting a ding in the toe I, too, had no backup razor (I dropped $225 on the razor and a strop, not a chunk of change to just brush off).

I continued to shave very carefully with it. I tried honing it a couple of weeks later after dropping $400 on Shaptons to see if I could work off some of the damage I did. I got rid of a little bit of the damage, but let me tell you this, honing is an art that will take me a long time to master. Needless to say, I probably could have done a better job steeling my razor with the steel in my knife block in the kitchen.

I sent it to Lynn to see what magic he could work. He honed it and did an awesome job.......it's sharper and more comfortable than it was off the shelf. I was lucky and the toe damage didn't affect the shaving surface
Best $20 I've ever spent. In the meantime, it was back to the Mach 3

I'm looking forward to purchasing a couple of more razors from Lynn. That Dovo Prima Klang is just beckoning to me and I already spoke to the wife.

RAD is creeping up on me. I just won a lot of 6 razors an hour ago on eBay, I'm hoping the Wostenholm in that bunch is worth the $30 I spent and is in good enough shape to restore.

i totally understand, the first time i ued my wapi that was given to me, i dropped right as i was putting it away, and got some tiny nicks in the blade.. ha to send it back to be honed again

That is why I set out on a mission to make a full 42 day set of top quality razors. If I have a problem with a blade, I always have another to use, and can set the dinged blade aside to fix on the hones when I have time.

Am almost done, could complete the 42 day set with what I have but am looking for the best of the best to populate the rotation. It takes a while since some blades don't shave very well and I have to figure out which ones they are before they make it into the rotation.
