Default Anybody have experience buying new razors on Ebay?

So I am bidding on Ebay for a supposedly unused Dovo razor. However the seller claims some marks on it and posts a couple extra pictures that show some redish colored stains on what appears to be a new razor?

I woupld post a pic but I don't want anyone swooping in and outbiding me, want to keep it hush hush, but remove doubt about it. If it is never used is it ready for use?

almost always they are not ready for use. Also, the red could be rust... might be slight, but I would bet money that it is not ready to be used.

Oh, one good thing is that if the blade is good, Ron (utopian) is offering free honing for new guys... he could get it shave ready for you as long as the blade is good.

They may be stains for how they were stored. If it is truly unused it is not shave ready. It will most likely need to be honed properly to shave well. I picked one similar to what you are describing up a few months ago. It cleaned up well, but it was not shave ready by any means.

My experience is that as long as it is a reputable razor, it will be a good one (unless there is obvious damage). +1 on the not being shave ready though. hope you have/ know how to hone

Nope, it won't be shave ready and who only knows what the stains are or if they will come off. Skip the doubt and check the classifieds here and buy a shave-ready razor from a forum member.

Well if it finishes at 34 I'd be surprised. One way or the other I like betting on sure things. Especially for a first razor. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Well no one else has bidded on it for nearly 24 hours and it is buried back.

I found the one you are looking at (well I'm 99% sure). The red stuff looks like some light rust. One thing that has me worried is that the close up blade pics look photoshopped. the reflection isn't right, and in one pic, the tang is completely airbrushed out........ Something doesn't look right here.
