Thread: And the package arrived! (Or: small guide to ship goods to Brazil)

As some of you might have read in this tread, Gunner777, Trevor and Nun2Sharp and a lot of other users of the SRP forum got together to assemble a "straight razor starter kit" (composed of two really gorgeous straight razors, a tub of "Taylor of old bond street" shaving cream, a honing stone, a "russian leather" strop, a piece of strop conditioner (the yellow bar in the photo), a mug, a "col. conk" pure badger brush and men-u shaving kit). As the conversations on the tread went on I found that the Brazilian law allows that goods be sent from one person abroad to a brazilian national without payment of any kind o import taxes, as long as:

1) Booth the sending party and the receveing one are "phisical" persons (i.e.: they are not companies);
2) The value of the gift isn't above US$ 50,00

I've also found out that as a lot of people use this loophole to import goods, the customs office is quite strict in allowing a package to be delivered without the payment of the import taxes, so it's recomended that the package come with a card (like a happy birthday or similar) to really mark it as a gift.

It's also important that the sender assign (in his country customs office or post office) that the package is a gift and assign a value for it (bellow US$50,00). Officials here are very picky with packages assigned as "valueless".

The processing and delivery of the package takes up to 90 (!!!) days, couting from the day the package arrives in Brazil. Mine took 30 days to be delivered.

The delivery, as I learned from the brazilian customs office, can be way faster if the sender chooses to post the package with a tracking number (it will also make the postage price go up a lot in the US). With this tracking number the user can access the Brazilian Post Office website and know where the package is and pick it up there.

So, there you have it! A small guide to send stuff to Brazil.
