    Default Texas Gold!

Another SRP member, ChayesFSS, mentioned a Craigslist ad for seven straight razors in the Denton, Texas area. Also, said he was having troubles connecting with the person running the ad. Long story short, with ChayesFSS' permission, (skipping details about razor budgets, and wives... mine left town this morning, and I guess ChayesFSS' wife has not... my "bill" comes due in two weeks), I purchased them this evening. Needless to say, I am completely happy with the purchase!

Interesting story. The seller purchased from a woman who was wife of a Chicago barber who was patronized by Jimmy Hoffa. The woman has some pictures of Jimmy getting out of the barber's chair. Whether this story is true or not, it's interesting! The seller is contacting the woman, and hopefully I can get a copy of the pictures.

The barber who owned these razors took perfect care of them. Not a water mark or stain or spot of rust on any of them. And, they were coated with oil, lightly used, and in perfect condition.

The sale came with two matching custom-made leather pouches.

Here's a list of the razors...

    Wade & Butcher
J.A. Henckels Twin Works, Solingen, Germany
    F.VonBrosy Steinberg
    George Wostenholm
Red Injun No 101 / H Boker & Co, Germany
Simmons Hdwe Co Inc Barbers Pet
    Joseph Rodgers & Sons

    Signed, Happy in Texas

Congratulations! I knew by the look and leather case that these razors weren't junk! Looks like you've struck gold!

Please take some more pics, what's the one with the notch towards the bottom?

Nice pick up. I really like the leather work on those razor rolls. Looks like they are all in good shape too. Can you tell what the handles are? Look like horn.

I am not knowledgeable about scales' materials. All are black, and look to be a hard quality grade plastic. Don't know...

Just found a description of the Boker Red Injun straight razor scale. It is black bakelite.

I'll post more pictures later tonight, or tomorrow. And, thanks for asking, ChayesFSS!
