I was shaving the other day and I was using my Georgetown Pottery G5 scuttle and thinking it wasn't really all that much better at keeping the lather warm than my G3 version.

Now I know people have tested the temperature of the water with thermometers and timed how long it kept warm but just as a practical matter I realized that your face really ain't very good at determining temperature. Actually your hands are way more sensitive. Also if you take a hot towel and put it on your face and leave it for a minute or so and replace it with another it won't feel as hot. So what I realized is the scuttle actually was keeping the lather warmer it's just that my face wasn't a good indicator of that. When I went to clean the brush the lather still felt quite warm to my hands but lukewarm to my face.

So what's the moral of the story? I don't know but I guess the scuttle has to keep the lather way warmer to compensate for a loss of heat detection on your face or maybe spray some ice water on your face between lather applications har har.
